GEOG 433 - Soil Science


4 credits
Offers an introduction to pedology and field techniques in describing soils. Develops a quantitative and qualitative understanding of morphology, origin, chemistry, and classification of soils. Topics include weathering, mineral and organic constituents of soil, nutrient cycling, soil erosion and contamination, biological activity in soils, and agriculture. Explores issues related to the environment and land use planning with respect to soils. Two 50-minute lectures and one 2-hour laboratory. Prerequisite(s): G 102  or ES 112 ; completion of University Studies (Quantitative Reasoning) requirements; and upper division or graduate standing. Corequisite(s): GEOG 433L .
