ED 459 - Philosophical Foundations of Education


3 credits
Highlights the philosophical roots guiding a wide range of educational beliefs and practices. Promotes development of a critical voice as it explores controversial challenges to the status quo by considering how to equitably serve all students. Encourages classroom leadership through deep and active engagement with the questions: Why teach? Why are my beliefs about education and learning important? How is the promise of “educational opportunity for all” still a troubling paradox in American society? Instructor integrates experiences from the field with the content of the course. Approved for University Studies (Integration - Strand I). Prerequisite(s): ED 309   (Philosophical Foundations of Education) or concurrent enrollment. Restricted to elementary education majors with junior standing or above.
