The English education program combines literature, writing, and linguistic studies to give students a strong knowledge base in language arts. Designed to prepare students for a graduate teaching licensing program in elementary or secondary education, the English education curriculum includes courses in pedagogy and practicum credits for field experiences.

200- or 300-level grammar course 4 credits
WR 472 - Teaching Written Composition 4 credits

WR 312 - Writing Workshop for Teachers 4 credits
ENG 488 - Teaching Literature
or
ENG 489 - Young Adult Novel

ENG 398 - Teaching Global Perspectives Through Children’s Literature 4 credits

Genre Studies: Poetry, Novel, Short Story, Essay, Drama (see department for available courses) 4 credits
400-level literature, linguistics, TESL, and/or writing courses* 12 credits

*Studies in ENG 436 - Studies in Shakespeare is highly recommended for students planning on middle and high school authorization level in the MAT program.
