Emerging Media & Digital Arts, BA/BS


The major in Emerging Media & Digital Arts combines interdisciplinary research and activity with a range of technical skills for the creation and evaluation of digital media. EMDA majors engage in all stages of the production process while working with university and community partners to develop best practices for digital media in our society.

Requirements for the Major

Fulfill baccalaureate degree requirements.

Complete a minimum of 56 credits in EMDA courses and related approved courses with a cumulative grade-point average of 2.75 or better:

a. Foundation courses (16 credits)


Choose four out of five of these course pairs (lecture and recitation are co-requisites); there are no prerequisites for foundational courses, and they may be taken in any sequence.

c. Capstone courses (8 credits)


  • 4 credits  (must be repeated for 8 credits total; senior standing in the major required)

d. Elective courses (16 credits)


Choose at least four of the following elective courses. Two courses (8 credits) must be EMDA, and at least two courses must be numbered at the 400-level:
