Film, Television, and Convergent Media Minor

Non-majors and Communication Majors in the Communication Studies concentration may earn a minor in Film, Television and Convergent Media. To complete the minor, students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.75 in 28 credits of Communication coursework listed below. All courses must be taken for a letter grade unless instructor permission is obtained. Students must meet all applicable requirements listed in the Minors section of this catalog, including the Minor residence requirement.

The Film, Television and Convergent Media Minor is useful to students in a variety of fields, including Art, Business, Theatre, Psychology, Anthropology, Political Science, Sociology, English and Writing, and Foreign Languages. This minor emphasizes theory, criticism, history and analysis of film and visual media, as well as the aesthetics and activities involved in both studio and field production, journalism, editing and design. This minor involves a core curriculum, as well as electives drawn from the Communication department (courses in Video Production, Film, Journalism, Convergent Media and Communication), and other disciplines (Emerging Media & Digital Arts, History, Political Science, Art, and Psychology). Students should work with a department advisor and the Communication Department Minor Coordinator to ensure that requirements are met.
