SOAN 312 - Sociology of Families 4 credits Emphasizes the changes in structure, function, and character of families arising from changes in culture, economic conditions, and social policy. Examines contemporary issues that pervade the discourse on families such as (1) the decline of the family reflects a decline in society; (2) individualism is a destabilizing factor of the family; and (3) the family is not in decline but it is in transition - with families taking on numerous and complex forms. Prerequisite(s): SOAN 204 or SOC 204, or SOAN 213 or ANTH 213. Sophomore standing or above. * This course was formerly offered under a different number; students who took the following course(s) will not receive additional credit unless the course is stated to be repeatable in the description above: SOC 312.
