SOAN 312 - Sociology of Families 4 credits Families are universally important social institutions. This course focuses on families in contemporary U.S. It explores patterns of change and variation in family structure, relationship dynamics and behaviors. Topics covered include the definition and theories of families; union and family formation; gender dynamics within union and families; the intersection of work and family; union dissolution; family, aging and health outcomes; and social policies and families. Prerequisite(s): SOAN 204 or SOC 204 or SOAN 205 or SOC 205 or SOAN 213 or ANTH 213. Sophomore standing or above. * This course was formerly offered under a different number; students who took the following course(s) will not receive additional credit unless the course is stated to be repeatable in the description above: SOC 312.
