SOAN 338 - Sociology of Health, Illness, and Health Care

The health care system in the United States is rapidly changing. To understand these changes, we review recent changes in health care policy and their impact on health insurance, access, and care delivery models.  We explore how social factors help explain health outcomes, and we examine new standards for evidence-based pracitces in treating illness.  Further, we examine how the Oregon Health Plan, Coordinated Care Organizations, and the concept of trauma-informed care are transforming health care in Oregon. May count towards the Ethnic & Racial Studies minor. Prerequisite(s): Completion of all lower division University Studies requirements or instructor consent; Sophomore standing or above.
