SPAN 313A - Medical Spanish for Front Office Personnel


4 credits
This course is designed for students with intermediate-low+ proficiency in Spanish (the ability to communicate in straightforward social situations) who would like to further develop their Spanish language skills to more effectively communicate with patients in healthcare settings. This course will support students’ development of elemental medical and procedural terminology and communicative strategies (greeting patients and family members, describing the body and common symptoms, discussing appointments and forms, etc.) to help facilitate gathering and conveying basic medical information. Additionally, students will study key grammatical, pragmatic and cross-cultural considerations essential to communicating with patients with precision, respect and empathy. Prerequisite(s): SOU Spanish Placement Level 5 or SPAN 203  with a C- or better.
