PH 221 - General Physics with Calculus I 4 credits Calculus-based introduction to general physics for science majors with special emphasis on applications and problem-solving in healthcare, biology, chemistry, and sustainability. Topics covered include equations of motion (kinematics) in 1D and 2D; Newton’s laws of motion (dynamics); rotational kinematics and dynamics; work, kinetic energy, and potential energy; conservation of linear momentum and conservation of angular momentum; and the law of universal gravitation. Basic differential calculus is applied to topics covered the later half of the term. Three lectures and one recitation. Prerequisite(s): MTH 251 (MTH 251 may be taken concurrently with PH 221 to satisfy the prerequisite). Corequisite(s): PH 224 , PH 221R . Approved for General Education: University Studies - G Strand Grade mode designated on a CRN basis each term. Students should consult current term schedule.
