SOAN 321 - The Human Service Profession 4 credits This course orients students to the field of human services, with a focus on career pathways, the organization and function of human service agencies, and the values and ethics that guide the profession. Students are introduced to the Human Service program at SOU including the links between course content and work in the human service field. Current social and professional issues that impact work in this field are explored and examined, as well as theories and approaches used by professionals in the human services field. Students learn about the broad impact of the human services field, including core interventions, evidenced based practices and being agents of change. Prerequisite(s): WR 123 or equivalent and Sophomore standing or above. Grade mode designated on a CRN basis each term. Students should consult current term schedule.
