SOAN 474 - Antiracist Social & Feminist Theory 4 credits Focusing on antiracist social and feminist theories, this course aims to increase understandings of inequality and power dynamics in our social world. Topics such as intersectionality, racism, sexuality, economic inequality, and decolonization are covered. Students gain a foundation in key sociological and feminist theories. Emphasis is placed on centralizing historically marginalized voices who resist oppression and struggle for autonomy. This course examines how the animating concepts and questions of these theories are relevant to current societal issues, such as poverty, inequality, and racial and gender discrimination. Prerequisite(s): SOAN 204 or SOAN 205 or SOAN 213 or GSWS 201 . Sophomore standing or above. Grade mode designated on a CRN basis each term. Students should consult current term schedule.
