EMDA 250 - Introduction to Arts-based Research 4 credits Students will develop the capacity to conduct research, critically analyze data, and present findings in the emerging field of arts-based research (ABR). While ABR encompasses a range of research approaches and strategies that utilize one or more of the arts in investigation, they share in common an engagement with aesthetic understandings as well as with discursive explanations. Through a feminist/BIPOC equity lens, we will examine how data science has been and continues to be used for special interests that perpetuate barriers to equity, diversity and inclusion. Students will work in teams to develop their own arts-based research, and teams will partner and cross-critique each other’s projects in a process of guided peer-assessment before a final, public presentation. Approved for General Education: Inquiry & Analysis Capacity, University Studies - E Strand Grade mode designated on a CRN basis each term. Students should consult current term schedule.
