SPED 518 - Student Teaching full day (initial licensure) 7 credits Student Teaching is the spring field experience for the candidate finishing the Initial Licensure Special Education Concentration. It is a full-day student teaching experience, and is designed to give the candidate maximum opportunity to direct and manage the special education setting to which they are assigned. When appropriate, the candidate should assume total responsibility for dealing with student instruction, scheduling, management and mainstreaming, as well as dealing with classroom assistants, parents, volunteers, and regular education staff whenever possible. The candidate is expected to spend the full day in the classroom setting; arrival and departure each day should correspond to that of the mentor teacher. It is expected that the candidate will attend and participate in before or after school activities, such as IEP, staff and pre-referral meetings. The candidate must demonstrate competence in all areas of special education, including assessment, instruction, planning, and evaluation. Prerequisite(s): Designed for students in the initial SPED Licensure Concentration.
