SPED 524b - Interventions in Academic Skills: Mathematics Methods (add endorsement)

4 credits
Interventions in Math Academic Skills is the primary course designed to provide instruction in the planning, development, and implementation of academic curriculum and lessons for the student with special needs in the area of mathematics. Modifying the general education curriculum, developing parallel curriculum, and providing supplemental curriculum are topics that will be covered. Familiarity with a variety of instructional approaches in each major strand of mathematics is expected. Emphasis is on creating opportunities for students with special needs to succeed in both the general and special education settings by utilizing appropriate modifications, accommodations, and approaches. In addition we’ll be “doing” a lot of math ourselves as a means to understand our own math learning and gain an understanding of how our students go about “making sense” of the math they encounter. Prerequisite(s): Intended for students pursuing the SPED Endorsement Certificate.
Graded (A-F) only.
