ART 397 - Foundry I 4 credits Introduces metal casting through sand casting methods: one-part open-faced molds, and two-part flask, or cope and drag, molds. Explores some metals suitable for each method, such as lead, pewter, aluminum, and bronze. Metal finishing processes are applied to cast pieces following pours. Foundry work is supplemented by a variety of visual presentations and demonstrations that address technical information, and the aesthetic use of metals in classical and contemporary sculpture. Prerequisite(s): ART 291 .
