Social Sciences Minor

The Social Sciences minor is geared towards SOU’s growing population of online students. It is designed to give students a general knowledge base in the social sciences. Students will learn basic social science theories and develop skills in social science research methods. They will also have opportunities to apply those theories and methodologies to a wide range of individual and social issues. Students can choose courses from the following programs; Criminology and Criminal Justice, Economics, History and Political Science,  Psychology and Sociology/Anthropology (SOAN).

Social Sciences Minor Requirements (24 credits)


Students must take 24 credits total from at least three social science programs (Criminology and Criminal Justice, Economics, History and Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology/Anthropology). Students must earn a minimum grade of C- in all classes to count for the minor.

Upper Division Electives (16 credits - not from student’s major program)


Students must take a minimum of 16 credits of coursework from the Division of Social Science (Criminology and Criminal Justice, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology) programs. The following list of courses are typically offered at least once per year (including summer terms) in an online format; however, other social science courses  may be used for the minor.
