Many technological sectors require individuals with strong backgrounds in both math and computer science. The mathematics-computer science comajor provides training in both areas.

Students should plan their programs carefully with advisors from both the Mathematics and Computer Science Departments.

Requirements for the Major

1. Complete the requirements specified for both mathematics and computer science as shown below. No more than one of the math requirements may be met with a grade below C-. At least 8 upper division math credits must be taken at SOU. Maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 in upper division computer science courses.

2. All mathematics-computer science majors must complete a Capstone Experience (CS 469 / 470 /471 or MTH 490 ).

MTH 253 - Calculus III 4 credits
MTH 261 - Linear Algebra 4 credits

Three additional upper division mathematics courses

(At least one must be at the 400 level)
