Principal Administrator License and Professional Administrator License (Pro-AL) Programs

SOU’s School of Education offers programs for the Principal Administrator License and the Professional Administrator License (Pro-AL) issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC). The IAL Principal Administrator License is a 40-credit, cohort-based program that begins each June and continues for two years. The Pro-AL program is a 27-credit, open-ended program accepting students throughout the year.

Both programs are designed to accommodate working professionals through evening, weekend, hybrid and online courses. The Principal Administrator License and Pro-AL programs utilize courses based on the integration of theory and practice coursework accompanied by a 300 hour practicum for the Principal Administrator License program and 200 for the Pro-AL.

Program prerequisites for the Principal Administrator License program include a master’s degree, minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0, teaching license or eligibility to hold a license, and two to three years of teaching experience. An alternative for those students not holding a teaching license is available through a waiver from TSPC and SOU. Students who do not have a master’s degree may enroll concurrently in the Master of Science in Education (MSEd) program. Requirements for the Principal Administrator License program are applied toward the completion of the MSEd program. Admission to the Pro-AL program is based on completion of the Principal Administrator License program or equivalent and appropriate leadership and administrative experience.
