The major in Emerging Media & Digital Arts combines interdisciplinary research and activity with a range of technical skills for the creation and evaluation of digital media. EMDA majors engage in all stages of the production process while working with university and community partners to develop best practices for digital media in our society.

Requirements for the Major

1.

Fulfill baccalaureate degree requirements.

2.

Complete a minimum of 60 credits in EMDA courses and related approved courses with a cumulative grade-point average of 2.75 or better:

a. Foundation courses (12 credits)

The three EMDA Foundations courses may be taken in any order. Each Foundation course consists of a lecture and recitation that must be taken together. There are no prerequisites for EMDA Foundations courses.

EMDA 321 - Theory & Practice in Emerging Media & Digital Arts 4 credits

d. Seminar in Digital Media (4 credits)

EMDA 407 - Seminar in Digital Media 4 credits (4 credits required) Usually taken Junior or Senior year. May be repeated for up to 16 credits.

e. Capstone Courses (4 credits)

In the Capstone, students continue to develop and produce independently-directed work in accordance with their professional goals.

EMDA 450 - Capstone 4 credits (taken during the Senior year. May be repeated for up to 12 credits.)

f. Upper Division Elective Courses (32 credits)

Choose 32 credits of upper division elective courses, 16 of which must have an EMDA prefix.
