The Degree in Three Program includes the Accelerated Baccalaureate and Jackson/Josephine County Pledge. Jack/Jo students receive a tuition discount, but those in the Accelerated Baccalaureate do not. The Degree in Three program enables students to customize their academic pursuits based on their individual strengths and goals. The following areas participate in the program: Business Administration, Communication, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Digital Cinema, Economics, Education Studies, Emerging Media & Digital Arts (EMDA), English, Environmental Science & Policy, Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, Health & Exercise Science, History, International Studies, Mathematics, Outdoor Adventure Leadership, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish Language & Culture, Sustainability, Sustainable Tourism Management.
To complete the program in three years, students average 16 credits per quarter in a focused program that reduces general education capacity and elective coursework. To ensure success in this reduced program of study, students should be self-disciplined, highly motivated, and committed to their major. Students in the Degree in 3 program are encouraged to follow their interests, participate in campus activities, and even study abroad.
The Degree in Three Committee reviews application portfolios and recommends students for this program to the major department. Faculty members from each participating department serve as academic advisors for program participants. Students must begin the Degree in Three program during their first quarter at the University; and they typically submit applications for this program when applying for admission to SOU.
Applicants must have at least a 3.4 cumulative high school GPA and Jack/Jo applicants must have a 3.2 cumulative high school GPA to be considered for the program. Additional information and applications are available on the Web at www.sou.edu/abp.
