Economics, BA or BS


Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of a BA/BS in Economics, graduates will be able to:

  • Write in a clear and coherent manner that shows correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation and coherent connections and transitions among ideas, paragraphs and sentences.
  • Use accurate economic terminology and effective application of economic principles to analyze economic problems.
  • Summarize an economic argument and develop a persuasive case for a particular economic viewpoint.
  • Use historical, theoretical, or empirical analysis in evaluating an economic issue or problem.
  • Collect, explore, and evaluate economic data and perform exploratory data analysis.
  • Do hypothesis testing.
  • Understand basics of regression, problems with regression, symptoms, and remedies.

 

Requirements for the Major


 

1. Fulfill baccalaureate degree requirements.


2. Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 in all courses taken for the major and complete each course for the major with a minimum grade of C-.

5. Choose and complete 24 credits of additional upper division economic electives.


Upon advisor approval, a maximum of 8 of these 24 credits may be taken in appropriate non-Economics courses.

Students interested in Public Policy are encouraged to take EC 310 , EC 319 , and EC 364 .  For an International focus, EC 321  and EC 379  are encouraged. Those students interested in Finance are encouraged to take EC 318 , BA 385 , and BA 472 . For students intending to pursue graduate school in Economics, Calculus and Linear Algebra courses through the Mathematics program are encouraged.
