Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of a BFA in Theatre, graduates will demonstrate:

Ability to interpret dramatic, creative, and literary texts through written, symbolic, visual, and oral means as well as historical, cultural and critical context.
Comprehension, practice and mastery of professional skills in their chosen area(s) of interest.
Ability work both independently and collaboratively, both as leaders and members of a team.

Theatre BFA

Theatre is an all-BFA program. For graduation, Theatre students must complete all program requirements AND either earn a theatre certificate of their choosing or complete the intensive concentration in Performance. Admission to the Performance Concentration is by audition only.

Retention in the Theatre program is dependent on academic performance and continued development of talent and acquisition of skills as evaluated by faculty assessment.

Requirements for the Theatre BFA Major

1. Fulfill baccalaureate degree requirements.

2. Theatre Practice Requirement

Complete a minimum of 12 credits of TA 255 - Theatre Practice and 12 credits of TA 455 - Theatre Practice .

3. Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.00 GPA in the major.

4. Complete all of the following courses:

TA 166 - Theatre Foundations 4 credits
TA 167 - Script Analysis 4 credits
TA 169 - Elements of Design 4 credits
TA 230 - Theatre and Culture I 4 credits
TA 231 - Theatre and Culture II 4 credits
TA 232 - Theatre and Culture III 4 credits
And complete the following performance course:
TA 246 - Introduction to Acting 4 credits
And complete two of the following technical courses:
TA 240 - Stagecraft 4 credits
TA 242 - Fundamentals of Sound 4 credits
TA 245 - Stage Lighting 4 credits
TA 249 - Costume Fundamentals 4 credits
TA 333 - Stage Properties 4 credits
TA 343 - Scene Painting 4 credits
And complete one of the following design courses:
TA 220 - Scene Design 4 credits
TA 256 - Character and Costume Design I 4 credits
TA 442 - Sound Design 4 credits
TA 445 - Lighting Design I: Creating the Aesthetic 4 credits

5. Complete the requirements for one of the following certificates OR the Performance Concentration:

6. Complete the following:

TA 403 - Thesis 1 to 9 credits, dependent on area of focus.
