Emerging Media + Design, BA/BS


The major in Emerging Media + Design combines interdisciplinary research and activity with a range of technical skills for the creation and evaluation of digital media. EM+D majors engage in all stages of the production process while working with university and community partners to develop best practices for digital media in our society.

 

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of a BA/BS in Emerging Media + Design, graduates will have developed:

  • Technical skills required to be competitive in your chosen field and media that will demonstrate the ability to apply innovative design principles and creative problem-solving strategies to produce original and compelling digital media projects.
  • A professional portfolio that showcases a breadth of work in emerging media and design, demonstrating your skills, creativity, and adaptability to potential employers through presentations, pitches, storyboarding and reels.
  • A critical research practice and will be able to identify relevant themes, historical traditions,  and/or contemporary practices to make critically informed content that displays sensitivity to cultural diversity and inclusion.
     

Requirements for the Major

Fulfill baccalaureate degree requirements.

2.


Complete a minimum of 60 credits in EMDA courses and related approved courses with a cumulative grade-point average of 2.75 or better:

a. Foundation courses (12 credits)


The three EMDA Foundations courses may be taken in any order. Each Foundation course consists of a lecture and recitation that must be taken together. There are no prerequisites for EMDA Foundations courses.

b. Writing Courses (4 credits)


Take 4 credits in:

Take 4 credits in:

d. Seminar in Digital Media (4 credits)


e. Capstone Courses (4 credits)


In the Capstone, students continue to develop and produce independently-directed work in accordance with their professional goals.

f. Upper Division Elective Courses (32 credits)


Choose 32 credits of upper division elective courses, 16 of which must have an EMDA prefix.
