Music Industry & Production Studies, BA or BS


Minimum of 125 credits to complete major (depending on chosen certificate)

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of a BA/BS in Music Industry & Production Studies, graduates are able to:

  • Construct a repertoire list of works they have performed, conducted, composed, arranged and/or produced.
  • Develop a biography that reflects the student professionally at the conclusion of their degree program at SOU.
  • Generate at least one press release for a past or future event: recital, concert, record release, composition premiere, etc.
  • Design a professional music resume.

1. Fulfill baccalaureate degree requirements.


2. Pass all sequential music theory and aural skills courses with a grade of C or better.


3. Required Performace


All music majors taking applied lessons (MUP 190-490) are required to perform before a jury at the end of fall-spring terms.

4. Maintain a 2.75 GPA in music courses.


5. All BA/BS in Music Industry & Production students must complete one of the following approved certificates:


  1. Certificate in Conducting  
  2. Certificate in Documentary Production  
  3. Certificate in Music Performance 
  4. Certificate in Music Theory & History 
  5. Certificate in Popular Music 
  6. Certificate in Sound Design

Upper Division Music Electives (15 credits):


  • Choose 15 credits from upper division MUP or MUS courses, or from upper division courses offered by other programs and approved by a student’s major advisor. Credits earned may be used to satisfy the requirements of a complementary minor or certificate.

Practicum (Internship) - (1 credit)


Capstone Project (2 credits)
