Theatre Teacher Training Program
The Master of Theatre Studies in Production and Design is a unique and vibrant program tailored specifically for currently employed high school and community college teachers. All TA 521 through TA 543 courses for the Master of Theatre Studies meet on the SOU campus over three summers. The curriculum includes required coursework before and after the two-week summer residency period and throughout the academic school year. The SOU residency portion of the program includes active discussion of production elements, including script analysis, all design elements, stage management, in-depth exploration of all technical areas, hands-on training in production concepts, and practical application of technical processes. Evenings are spent preparing class assignments, working on design and technical projects, and attending plays at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The structure of this master’s degree program follows the guidelines set by the Theatre Arts program.
Admission Process
Prior to meeting the requirements for admission to the Graduate Studies Division of SOU, applicants must submit an application form, a teaching and theatre resumé, a statement of educational philosophy, official transcripts, and three letters of reference which address teaching and production experience.
