Art History Lower Division


(32 credits in art and 8 credits in non-art electives for 40 credits total)

Non-Art Electives:


Students will consult with their art history advisor to select a minimum of 8 credits of lower division courses that complement their art historical interests. These courses may be taken from the following prefixes (these may not be counted towards University Studies requirements): ANTH, BA, CHN, CM, COMM, CS, EC, ED, EMDA, ENG, ES, FLM, FR, GEOG, GL, GSWS, HST, IS, JPN, MUS, NAS, PHL, PS, PSY, REL, SHS, SOC, SPAN, TA.

Mid-Program Review


Upon completion of the lower division art history requirements, students must enroll in, and successfully complete the mid-program review ARTH 300  .  Art History majors write a short essay and meet with a group of faculty to discuss. Guidelines for the Mid-Program  Review are posted on the Department’s website.

Art History Option Upper Division


(40 credits)

  • 0 credits
  • Art History electives at 300 and 400 levels: 24 credits
  • Support and related studies selected in consultation with art history advisor at the 300 and 400 levels.

  • Non-art history electives - 12 credits
  • 4 credits (to be completed during the senior year)

Total in the major: 80 credits
