Digital Media Minor

Non-majors and Communication Majors in the Communication Studies concentration may earn a minor in Digital Media. To complete the minor, students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.75 in 28 credits of Communication coursework listed below. All courses must be taken for a letter grade unless instructor permission is obtained. Students must meet all applicable requirements listed in the Minors section of this catalog, including the Minor residence requirement.

The Digital Media Minor is useful to students in a variety of fields, including Art, Business, Theatre, Psychology, Anthropology, Political Science, Sociology, English and Writing, and Foreign Languages. This minor emphasizes theory, criticism, history and analysis of digital media, as well as the aesthetics and activities involved in film and video production, journalism, social media, editing and design. This minor involves a core curriculum, as well as electives drawn from the Communication program (courses in Social Media and Public Engagement, Digital Cinema, and Communication), and other disciplines (Emerging Media & Digital Arts, History, Political Science, Art, and Psychology). Students should work with a communication program advisor and the Communication Program Minor Coordinator to ensure that requirements are met.
