SOAN 312 - Sociology of Families 4 credits Emphasizes the changes in structure, function, and character of families arising from changes in culture, economic conditions, and social policy. Compares contemporary families to historical and cross-cultural forms. Analyzes issues, such as changing gender roles, same-sex marriage, divorce, single parents, domestic violence, and new roles for children and aging relatives. Considers feminist and queer theories on families. Prerequisite(s): SOAN 204 or SOC 204, or SOAN 213 or ANTH 213. Sophomore standing or above. * This course was formerly offered under a different number; students who took the following course(s) will not receive additional credit unless the course is stated to be repeatable in the description above: SOC 312.
