CCJ 271 - Introduction to Corrections 4 credits Examines the American correctional system. Provides an overview of local, state, and federal correctional agencies. Examines the history and development of correctional policies and practices, criminal sentencing, jails, prisons, alternative sentencing, prisoner rights, rehabilitation, and parole and probation. Explores current philosophies of corrections and the debates surrounding the roles and effectiveness of criminal sentences, institutional procedures, technological developments, and special populations. Grade mode designated on a CRN basis each term. Students should consult current term schedule.
