HST 316 - Ancient Rome 4 credits Surveys the political, military, economic, social, cultural, and religious institutions of Ancient Rome from the beginning of the Republic (fifth century b.c.e.) to the fall of the Empire (fifth century c.e.). Focuses on the period from the rise of Julius Caesar during the first century b.c.e. through the reign of Augustus (27 b.c.e. to 14 c.e.) and to the period of the emperor Marcus Aurelius (161 to 180 c.e.). Prerequisite(s): Junior standing or above and completion of Social Sciences and Humanities Explorations courses Graded (A-F) only
