HST 346 - Atlantic World II: Colonial Latin America 1500-1750 4 credits Addresses Spanish and Portuguese conquests in the American mainland, the expansion and transformation of Christianity, and the development of a colonial economy within new global trade networks. Explores the relationship between the Christian re-conquest of Iberia and the European conquest of the Americas, as well as the complex question of how peoples of the eastern and western hemispheres viewed each other across the increasingly permeable boundary of the Atlantic. Special attention will be paid formation of governments, religious practices, and diplomatic systems that combined African, Indian, and European traditions. Prerequisite(s): HST 110 , HST 111 .
