ENG 517 - Birth of the British Novel to 1850

Studies the birth and early development of the English novel, with attention to the early masterpieces of Defoe, Swift, Fielding, and Austen. Occasional emphasis is on fictional precursors or special issues in prose fiction. Graded (A-F) only. Must be eligible to take Graduate level coursework. Prerequisite(s): ENG 300.
