1. Interdisciplinary Culture Core

Three advisor-approved courses in fields related to Spanish.  Two courses must be upper-division. Recommended to be taken abroad.

May include one course from SOAN 213  , COMM 200  , or COMM 203  .

May include upper-division Spanish courses that are not used to satisfy other Spanish major requirements.

• SPAN 421 - Selected Genre or Period Studies 3 to 4 credits
• SPAN 422 - Major Literary Figures 3 to 4 credits
• SPAN 425 - Topics in Contemporary Hispanic Literature and Society 3 to 4 credits each
• SPAN 441 - Topics in Hispanic Culture 3 to 4 credits each
• SPAN 481 - Topics in Theoretical and Applied Spanish Linguistics 3 to 4 credits each
• SPAN 482 - Topics in Writing and Translation 3 to 4 credits each

4. Advanced Service Learning

• SPAN 406 - Community-Based Work Experience 1 to 15 credits (4 to 15 credits required)

•  Students complete a minimum of 120 hours of work and must enroll for a minimum of 4 credits, but may receive up to 15 credits at the rate of 30 hours work per credit. May be completed abroad.

   

5. Capstone

• SPAN 498 - Capstone: Research and Writing Seminar 4 credits

6. Interdisciplinary Concentrations

Students in the Spanish major are required to complete a minor or a second major. Requirement can be waived with 20 upper division credits abroad. At least 16 credits of the major must be completed on the Ashland campus, 12 credits of which must be in Spanish courses at the 400-level.
