COMM 332 - Discourse Analysis of Social Problems 4 credits Examines the construction of social problems (such as homelessness and hunger) by media; policymakers; and stakeholders, including community-based groups, social movements, and nongovernmental and civic organizations. Explores how voices and perspectives are framed and disseminated in the public realm and how power works through language, texts, and social action. Includes a community-based learning component involving community service, applied projects, and reflective, action-based learning. Approved for University Studies (Integration - Strand I). Prerequisite(s): Junior standing or above. Grade mode designated on a CRN basis each term. Students should consult current term schedule.
