Art - BA/BS

The BA/BS in Art is a studio-intensive program emphasizing mentorship and collaboration amongs students and faculty.  The Art curriculum is built around five student-centered goals:

  • Challenging and expanding each student’s understanding of the creative process.
  • Providing students with media-specific technical training.
  • Exposing students to a broad range of contemporary and historical art practices as well as a strong background in critical theory.
  • Developing an informed professional presence in the world beyond the campus.
  • Synthesizing the above - creative process, technique, critical inquiry, and professional goals - into a unique studio practice.

Requirements for the BA/BS in Art:

Fulfill baccalaureate degree requirements.

2.


Maintain a 3.0 GPA for all SOU coursework in the major:

a. Art Foundations


In the first year, art majors should complete 12 credits of Introduction to Studio Methods courses as well as the ARTH 204 , ARTH 205 , ARTH 206  sequence.

In the second year, art majors should take ARTH 350 - Art Theory and Critical Issues , ART 209 - Sophomore Studio Topics , and a fourth Introduction to Studio Methods course.

c. Studio Topics (8 credits)


d. Advanced Studio Methods (16 credits)


Choose 16 credits from any combination of the following:
