Pursuing a Minor in English and Writing

Students interested in pursuing a minor in English and writing should consult an advisor in the department and be aware of any course prerequisites. English and writing majors also pursuing a minor in the department may not use any of the same courses, excluding prerequisites and core courses, for both programs.

Prerequisites:

• USEM 101 - University Seminar 4 credits each
• USEM 102 - University Seminar 4 credits each
• USEM 103 - University Seminar 4 credits each

• OR

• WR 121

• and

• WR 122 - English Composition 4 credits

•  

• the Explorations sequences from all three of the learning areas or the equivalent
• and the writing intensive course for the major.
• WR 327 - Technical Writing 4 credits
• WR 329 - Grantwriting and Workplace Literacy 4 credits
• WR 493 - Topics in Rhetoric 4 credits

Select one of the following courses:

• WR 409 - Practicum Credits to be arranged (4 credits required)
• WR 410 - Community Engagement Writing: Internships and Practica 4 credits

Select 8 credits from the following:

• WR 350 - Topics in Nonfiction Essay 4 credits
• WR 414 - Advanced Composition 4 credits
• WR 455 - The History of Publishing: From Alphabet to E-Book 4 credits
• ENG 492 - Structure of the English Language

• or

• WR 395 - Advanced Grammar 4 credits
• WR 312 - Writing Workshop for Teachers 4 credits
• WR 460 - Advanced Topics in Creative Nonfiction 4 credits
