SOAN 213 - Introduction to Cultural Anthropology


4 credits
Introduces the major concepts, theories, and research methods of cultural anthropology that are used to study and understand human life in different parts of the world.  Emphasizes how culture shapes the manifestations of even seemingly universal parts of human life, such as social organization, language and communication, economics, kinship, and health.  Topics covered may include, but are not limited to, race and ethnicity, sex and gender, religion, power, politics, ritual, technology, colonialism, and globalization. A wide geographic range provides a basis for global comparisons of cultural similarities and differences among human societies. May be applied to the International Studies major and minor. May count towards the Ethnic & Racial Studies Certificate.
