MUS 115 - Audio and Music Production I - Foundations 3 credits AMP I covers introductory concepts and skill development in audio and music production. Students work with consumer grade software applications that are either free or come bundled with their computers, and designed to record, edit, and produce music digitally. Students develop skills in controlling this software with consumer grade hardware, such as MIDI control surfaces and digital audio interfaces. Students develop basic skills in songwriting, music composition, and learn how to prepare music for a recorded performance. Students are also introduced to Pro Tools, an industry standard Digital Audio Workstation. Students will begin to learn the basic operation of Pro Tools over a series of assignments that explore the science behind digital recording technology. Other topics include microphone placement and patterns, cable and jack types, signal chain and gain staging. Grade mode designated on a CRN basis each term.
