SPAN 313C - Spanish Medical Terminology for Healthcare Providers 4 credits This course is designed for students with intermediate-low+ proficiency in Spanish (the ability to communicate in straightforward social situations) who would like to further develop their Spanish language skills to more effectively communicate with patients in healthcare settings. More specifically, this course is oriented towards future medical and other clinical providers and will introduce students to medical and clinical terminology related to human anatomy, physiology and primary body systems. The structure of medical terminology will be examined, including how prefixes, suffixes, and word roots are combined and can be deconstructed to determine meaning. Particular emphasis will be placed on terminology related to disease, injury, diagnosis and treatment, and on learning to bridge communication gaps through the practice of patient-friendly language. Prerequisite(s): SOU Spanish Placement Level 5 or SPAN 203 with a C- or better. Grade mode designated on a CRN basis each term. Students should consult current term schedule.
