Certificate in Foundations of Teaching English Language Arts

This 32-credit certificate provides a foundation in teaching English Language Arts for students who are interested in teaching in formal and informal settings. It is recommended for students who plan to apply to licensure or MAT programs. This certificate pairs easily with the Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) .

Required classes:

4 credits of lower-division literature. Choose from:

 

4 credits of English grammar. Choose from:

4 credits of literary analysis (ENG 301 )

4 credits of reading pedagogy (ENG 488  or ENG 489 )

4 credits of writing pedagogy (ENG 312  or ENG 472 )

Electives

12 credits of 300- or 400-level ENG courses (up to 4 credits may come from ENG409B Practicum in Teaching ELA.)
